LG chairman to empower 5000 youths in 100 days, inaugurates new legislative arm

The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State, Mr Wasiu Adesina on Tuesday promised to empower 5000 youths during his 100 days anniversary in office.

Adesina said this during the inauguration of the 6th legislative arm of the council at the LGA’s secretariat in Ikorodu, Lagos.

“Today we are inaugurating the sixth legislative arm of the council and the councillors have been sworn-in.

“Our expectations are that we want to bring dividends of democracy to doorstep of ordinary person in Ikorodu.

“In our 100 days, we want to empower no fewer than 5000 youths in the community on skill acquisitions.

“We are going to embark on empowerment programme that will bring more food on the table of an ordinary person,” Adesina said.

The chairman, who has just been elected for a second term in office, said despite challenges in the past few years, many roads, schools, markets, culverts, empowerment programmes, bursary awards, patrol van and reconstruction of secretariat, were embarked upon.

According to him, his administration was unable to achieve much during his first term due to the meagre federal allocation the LGA received. The chairman promised to consolidate on his achievements in his second term.

He stated that the council would partner with relevant stakeholder such as the Community Development Associations (CDA), royal fathers, Baales and residents to harness the council’s potential and improve the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The chairman urged the legislature to initiate progressive and dynamic Byelaws for the growth and development of the LGA.

“The role of the legislature in the success of this administration is enormous and the only hope is to improve the IGR,” he said.

However, the newly inaugurated legislative arm of Ikorodu LG also assured their unflinching support and robust partnership with the executives.

They promised to make enabling Byelaws that would enhance development and promote peace and stability in the community area.

Speaking to journalists shortly after their inaugural sitting, the Leader, Hon. Adebowale Ajayi, representing Ward E, said the legislature would be deeply committed to providing necessary legislative framework that would facilitate rapid development of Ikorodu.

The leader advised his colleagues to work with the tenet and follow all the rudiments of the law that would bring about growth and development.

“The executive should be expecting a formidable legislative that will work in tandem with tiles that govern the legislatures.

“They should conform with the administrative law of Lagos state which will enables them know their duty and call for service,” Ajayi said.
