Lagos police nab suspected cultist, traffic robbers; recover arms, others

Police operatives attached to the Area ‘D’ Command, Mushin, on May 17, 2021, arrested one Nwugo Oforuike ‘m’ 30, member of Aiye confratanity, who hails from Imo State, with one locally-made pistol, one live cartridge, one car key, one Infinix Hot 8 light phone, one neck chain and one iron rod.
In the same vein, the police operatives attached to Ojo Division of the Lagos State Police Command, also on the same day around 6 am, arrested a suspected serial house breaker, Marcus Ikechukwu, ‘m’, 34, of Karabosowa, Ojo, Alaba, Lagos, who has been terrorising and breaking into people’s house at Ikotun, Igando, Surulere and other places within the state.
The police team on patrol at Alaba International Market, Lagos, intercepted one green T4 bus and upon search, some suspected stolen items were recovered. The items include one large cutter for breaking into houses and three big generators.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday said the suspect has confessed to the crime that he has broken into many houses in Surulere, Igando and Ikotun areas of Lagos State.
He said: “Similarly, the same police operatives attached to Ojo Division on 17th May, 2021, around 10.30 pm, arrested two suspected traffic robbers/House Breakers at TIV Yam Market, off Lagos/Badagry Expressway, Alaba Rago, Ojo Lagos.
“The suspects are Abdulkareem Hamzat, ‘m’, 24, of old NEPA Road, Alaba Rago, Ojo and Nura Adamu, ‘m’, 20, of Karabosowa, Ojo-Lagos. They were caught in the possession of two dagger knives, giant cutter, one cutlass, catapult and some weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the suspects be handed over to the command’s Special Squad, Ikeja, for proper investigation and possible.”
He said the CP appealed to members of the public to beware and keep watch on strange faces in their various communities and relate closely with their Divisional Police Officers and local vigilantes as a measure to curb crimes and criminality in the state.
According to Adejobi, Odumosu has reaffirmed that the command will not relent on its oars in ensuring that adequate security is maintained in Lagos State.
The Lagos State Police Command has again reiterated its commitment to continuously tackle cultism and other forms of criminality in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, gave the assurance on Monday 17th May, 2021, while addressing the Area Commanders, Heads of Departments and Tactical Commanders at the POWA Hall, Oduduwa Ikeja.
He added that in continuation of the command’s renewed tactical skills to combat crimes in the state, the Commissioner of Police today 19th May, 2021, launched another phase of weapons and combat training for the members of the rank and file in order to be in tandem with the ongoing similar training for the One Hundred and Ten (110) Divisional Police Officers in the state.
The Police boss also promised to extend the training session to Heads of Departments and Sectional Heads in the command as all hands must be on deck to beef up security in Lagos State.
The training, which is being carried out at various camps in the state, has an outline designed to include legal studies to boost the personnel’s expertise in legal proceedings, human rights, and general criminal laws in line with the international practices.
