The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, Andrew Amiengheme, has been promoted to the prestigious rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Odiko MacDon, on Friday, said the Niger Delta trailblazer has been an amazing security stabilizer since his assumption of duty as the 30th Commissioner of Police in the State.
According to him, Amiengheme and Fellow of the Defence College (fdc), has collaborated with the government, sister security agencies and the good people of the state to enhance peace and tranquillity in the state and was decorated by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, on Wednesday, 1st June 2022.
He said: “The IGP charged the newly promoted AIG and other Senior Officers to be more loyal and dedicated to their duties and to serve with professionalism as they assume higher responsibilities.
“The widely travelled and internationally exposed AIG Amiengheme Andrew, who was supported by his wife, Mrs Joyce Amiengheme during the decoration thanked the Almighty God, the IGP, the Police Service Commission (PSC), the Government and the good people of the State and dedicated his elevation to Almighty God and the good people of Akwa Ibom State.
“He remained indelibly grateful and happy with the superlative performance of the Officers and Men of the Command.”
MacDon stated that the command has continued to make significant progress in making the state remain one of the most peaceful states in the country.
He added that on 11/5/2022, one Godfirst Edet Bassey ‘m’ was arrested for rape/armed robbery at Mbo Local Government Area.
“The suspect blocked one Effiong Mfon ‘m’ while returning from Ibaka to his residence, hit him on the eye with a gun and collected the sum N30,000 from him.
“On the same day, the suspect again blocked one Esther Manner ‘f’ on the road and dragged her to Primary School, Ewang and raped her.
“Also, in a related development, on gunpoint, the suspect dragged one Docas Etifit ‘f’ to an unknown house and raped her,” he said.
MacDon added that the same suspect, on interrogation, admitted to the commission of the crimes and has been charged.
The PPRO said a similar incident happened on 11/05/2022 at about 1430hrs, Patrol Team of Ikot Ekpene Division on inquiry, sighted one Ndifreke Itoro Effiong ‘m’ aka Ndi’boy, a notorious armed robbery gang leader who has been terrorizing Ikot Ekpene and its environs, took to flight as soon as he sighted the police but was overpowered and arrested.
He said: “The following exhibits were recovered from him; One long locally fabricated gun; one locally made pistol; six live cartridges; one big machete; supreme Vikings confraternity insignia with cowries.
“Other items include one native pot with assorted charms; two GSM phone chargers, and a laptop bag.”
He noted that all the suspects have been charged.
