Ibom Air takes delivery of 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft

The management of Ibom Air said it has taken delivery of the first ten Airbus A220-300 aircraft ordered from the aircraft manufacturer, Airbus at the 2021 Dubai Airshow.

General Manager, Marketing, and Communication, Ibom Air, Mrs Aniekan Essienette said the aircraft were received during a handover ceremony on Friday, at Airbus’s Mirabel facilities in Canada.

Essienette stated that the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, the Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, Mr Mfon Udom and the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the airline, Mr George Uriesi received the aircraft in Canada.

In a press release, the GM said the Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, Mr Mfon Udom was enthusiastic on the arrival of the Airbus A220-300 handed over by President and CEO of Airbus Canada, Benoît Schultz, Head of the A220 Programme Office, Daniel Wenninger, and Head of A220 Customer Line, Airbus Canada, Marc Arpin.

She explained that the addition of the Airbus A220-300 to Ibom Air’s fleet will enable the airline to expand its service across diverse destinations within the African continent which recently started with the Lagos-Accra route.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mfon Udom, “The introduction of the Airbus A220-300 to our fleet is a game-changing leap forward for Ibom Air.

“The decision to invest in a fleet of highly efficient brand-new aircraft to power our growth plans underscores our determination to offer no less than world-class airline services to our valued customers,” Essienette stated.

The Airbus A220-300 is at the forefront of modern aviation technology and has received global recognition for its revolutionary fuel efficiency, cutting-edge technology, and top-notch passenger comfort and safety features.

The Airbus is said to be adaptable for short and medium-haul commercial operations, with a range of up to 7 hours (up to 3,450 nm).

Ibom Air is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government and aims to set the standard as an airline of choice for passengers through schedule reliability, on-time departures, and excellent service. 

It currently has a fleet of seven aircraft: five Bombardier CRJ 900 and two Airbus A320, covering eight destinations.
