Four Internet fraudsters die of drug overdose in Bayelsa
The Police in Bayelsa State has said that four suspected internet fraudsters known in local parlance as Yahoo Yahoo boys have died after taking an overdose of drugs.
The Network learnt that the four suspected internet fraudsters were confirmed dead along the Nasco Egei Road of Biogbolo community of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital on Friday.
The police said that the boys died around 12 midnight after an intake of two pills each to celebrate a supposed financial breakthrough at an apartment rented by one of them identified as Favour.
The State Commissioner of Police, Benjamin Okolo, who confirmed the death of the four youths to the media attributed the death to a drug overdose.
The CP said that five people were involved in the weird celebration that resulted in the death of the four.
He said that the only survivor told the police that while his colleagues each swallowed two of the pills, he took one.
The CP said, “They died of a drug overdose. It is quite unfortunate that they administered the drug themselves. They were five and the one that survived told us that they took two pills each and that he took one. This was why they died.”
However, the CP assured that the police would conduct an autopsy into the cause of the death of the four boys if their families insist that they were poisoned
But a friend of the deceased identified as Melvin, hinted at suspicions that the boys could be poisoned even though they could not prove it while there are speculations that they could have inhaled generator fume.
“We are here at Ekeki Police Station in the company of Favour’s father to secure the release of the corpse for burial. But it is proving difficult after swearing to an Affidavit.
“We gathered that they ate food they ordered which was delivered by a logistics motorbike and they died. One of them who was in the toilet however survived because he did not eat from the meal.”
Also, another friend of the deceased boys, who pleaded anonymity, claimed that “the deceased was much awake when we forced the security man to open the gate to their residence.
“Nelson (one of the deceased) was sitting on the chair but his head was on the ground with his vomit. Richie (another deceased) has his computer tab on in his hand and Yazz showed he was struggling. It clearly showed that they were poisoned.”
