FG declares two-day holiday for Eid al-Fitr
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, 19 March, and Friday, 20 March 2026, as public holidays to mark Eid al-Fitr, the festival that signals the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister extended warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the fasting period.
He urged Muslims to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice emphasised during Ramadan.
The minister also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s continued peace, unity and prosperity.
He encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and to extend acts of kindness to those in need. Tunji-Ojo further assured that the Federal Government remains committed to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
