The Federal Constituency re-run elections in Akwa Ibom State witnessed a large turnout of voters amid heavy security.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has deployed 2,000 Officers and Men as well as from sister security agencies for the elections.

The re-run elections were held in 54 polling units and 15 Wards in the three local government areas of Ikono, Ini and Ibiono Ibom.

Findings and observations show that though in some of the polling units, accreditation of voters started very late, the voters who turned out in large numbers were waiting patiently for the materials.

In Unit 2 (Holy Child Primary School) Ikono, accreditation started at 9:30 am, while in Unit 14, ward 11, accreditation was yet to start as at the time of filing this report.

The presiding officer for unit 2, Mrs Mildness David attributed the late accreditation to a lack of vehicles to convey electoral materials.

“There were no vehicles to convey the election materials to this place and that was our challenge,” she said.

In unit 14, voters were still waiting patiently for the materials as of 9:30 am.
