Eno pledges to support corps members posted to A’Ibom

Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has said that the state government will continue to support corps members posted to the state with an enabling environment to contribute their quotas to the growth of the Nigerian economy.

Eno said this on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch A Stream II orientation exercise for corps members at the permanent orientation camp in Ikot Itie Udung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area of the state.

The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Monday Uko, reminded the corps members that the task of nation-building had fallen on their shoulders as they were being sworn in.

He urged the corps members posted to the state to take the orientation exercise seriously, especially the Skills Acquisition Entrepreneurship Development programme as it will add value to their lives.

“The Government will continue to do its part to give you the needed support and enabling environment to contribute to the overall growth of the economy.

“As we are consciously taking necessary steps to ensure that your lives and property, including that of other citizens, are protected against all forms of threat to abuse.

“My dear patriots, this Scheme had over the years impacted positively on the lives of our people in various ways and you cannot afford to shy away from this task which your predecessors had performed well in the past,” Eno said.

The governor charged them to respect and corporate with the managers of the orientation exercise to bring the best out of the exercise.

Earlier in his remarks, the new NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Christopher Okun, disclosed that a total of 2, 164 corps members were posted to the state, comprising 1, 065 males and 1, 099 females.

Okun said that the orientation exercise has been packaged into paramilitary drills, lectures, skills acquisition training and social activities geared towards equipping you to meet the challenges of the service year.

He charged the corps members to take the training exercise and all other activities of the orientation course seriously.

Okun expressed his support to the State Government, heads of security agencies other ministries and parastatal for their support of the scheme.

Our Correspondent reports that the point of the event was the administration of the oath of allegiance on the corps members by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Ekaete Obot.
