Akpan Umoh, Uyo
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has flagged off-road projects in the Oron federal constituency to promote economic activities as part of his campaign promises to the people.
The road projects include the dualization of 13.5km Okopedi-Oron Road by East-West Road Phase 2 and the dualization of 13.6km Unyenge-Universal Energy Road to Ibom Deep Seaport with two bridges of 30m & 45m spanning and a spur to Affi-Uda Village in Mbo Local Government Area of the state.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ekerete Udoh and made available to newsmen in Uyo on Wednesday disclosed that the project would be handled by the Chinese engineering and construction giant, CCECC and will be delivered for inauguration in 24 months.
According to him, the governor has urged the contractor to adhere strictly to the time frame.
Udoh further mentioned that the governor has promised to flag off 18 strategic roads across all the 10 Federal Constituencies with the first set, in Oron.
He said Eno has also announced that the government would conduct Town Hall meetings from June this year to acquaint the people with the administration’s scorecard in the spirit of inclusivity; and inquire from the people further needs for their respective communities.
“We are on course. We believe in action as we do not take your votes for granted,” the governor declared.
Ekerete added that Eno later visited the General Hospital, Iquita Oron, where free medical services were provided in partnership with Hensek Integrated Services, an indigenous road and engineering services firm.
Udoh explained that during the 2023 governorship campaign visit to Oron, Eno had promised to reintroduce the long moribund ferry services, which was a popular means of transportation back in the 70s and the ’80s if elected.
He said Eno had also promised to turn the Oron Beach into a tourist’ haven adding that the governor’s visit to the area was a fulfilment of that campaign promise.
“Already contract has been awarded to the Nigerian Navy for the construction of the ferries. The people were happy, even more, as the project is to be handled by the son of the soil, Orman Esin, who is the Honourable Commissioner for Transport.
“Over 100 billion naira is being budgeted for these projects and the administration has not borrowed a dime to execute any of the projects,” he said.
