Eid-el-Fitr: Police arrest notorious cultist in Ogun State
The operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a notorious and murderous cultist terrorising Abeokuta and Ifo areas.
This came as the police promise tight security before, during and after the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Crime report from the command gave the name of the suspect as Rotimi Adebiyi, a.k.a, Paracetamol.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect has been on the police wanted list over his role in several cult clashes which resulted in the death of some members of another cult group.
Oyeyemi added that the suspect was arrested by CSP Olanrewaju Kalejaye-led SWAT operatives in his hideout in the Ifo area of the state.
“The suspect, a leader of the Eiye cult group used to come to Abeokuta metropolis to strike and always run back to his hideout in Ifo.
“The police operatives acting on credible intelligence stormed his place around 1:30 am of Saturday, April 30, 2022, where he was apprehended.”
According to Oyeyemi, items recovered from him are; one cut -to- size locally- made pistol, one live cartridge, assorted criminal charms, weed suspected to be Indian hemp and a cutlass.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Lanre Bankole, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the past activities of the suspect with a view to arraigning him as soon as possible.
Bankole congratulated the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of this year’s Ramadan fasting and urged them to be good ambassadors of Islam by ensuring peace at all times.
In order to put crime and criminals at bay during the Salah celebration, the CP has ordered the deployment of a large number of policemen to man all the major highways across the state.
The operatives of the command’s tactical squads such as SWAT, anti-kidnapping unit, anti-cultists unit as well as police mobile force had all been put on red alert to nip in the bud any ugly incident that might want to rear its head before, during and after the Salah celebration.
In the same vein, all the area commanders and divisional police officers have been directed to provide adequate security in all the prayer grounds as well as recreation centres across the state.
The CP, therefore, appealed to the general public not to hesitate to inform security agents if any suspicious movement is noticed in their area.
