The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Salihu Yakasai, a social media aide to Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje after criticising President Muhammadu Buhari over insecurity.
Yakasai was said to have tweeted on Friday that the All Progressives Congress had failed to secure Nigerians.
His comments came in the wake of the abduction of 317 students of Government Girls Secondary School in Jangebe, Zamfara State.
He added that if the abductions had happened during the Obasanjo and Jonathan administrations, there would have been more outrage in the north.
He tweeted: “This is sad and heart-breaking, I feel helpless and hopeless. I completely agree. Hypocrisy is in our DNA. Imagine what’s happening in the North now under GEJ or OBJ, what you will hear is he’s the enemy of the North and Muslims, but here we are being ravaged by all sorts of insecurity but no collective rage, sai useless lamentations. SMDH.”
Hours after Yakasai’s viral tweets, one of Ganduje’s aides on Twitter @sadeqhenry said Yakasai had been picked up by the DSS.
“Alhamdulillahi we just confirmed @dawisu is at DSS office,” he tweeted.
Yakasai’s father the elder statesman Tanko Yakasai told PUNCH on Saturday that his son was arrested on his way to a barber shop.
“Yes, Salihu is with the security operatives since yesterday (Friday).
“He was arrested on his way to a barbing saloon. But I cannot confirm to you whether he is here in Kano or somewhere else,” he said.
