Driver, truck assistant injured in accident

A driver of a tanker loaded to capacity with 33,000 litres of diesel with his assistant was injured when the truck overturned as the driver was said to be trying to negotiate a bent under the NAHCO Bridge in front of Hajj Camp at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos
It was learnt that the accident was caused by the driver’s negligence.
Director General/Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said on Wednesday that the driver and the truck assistant sustained injuries.
“The accident of the overturned oil tanker truck was “due to the driver’s negligence.
“The driver and truck assistant sustained injuries and have been transferred to hospital. A combined team of Agency Firefighters, the Lagos State Fire Service, Nigeria Police and FAAN fire service were all responders at the incident scene,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs, LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor.
Okunbor said the agency recovered an oil tanker loaded to capacity with 33,000 litres of diesel in a just-concluded operation in front of Hajj Camp at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.
According to him, on completion of the product transload, the fallen tanker was successfully recovered and placed on a Layby with the deployment of the agency’s Super Metro.
