Diri, deputy inaugurated for second term, pledged more development

The Chief Judge of Bayelsa Justice Matilda Ayemieye on Wednesday administered the oaths of office and allegiance to Zone Gov Douye Diri of Bayelsa, his Deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo to signal their inauguration for a second term in office at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

The inauguration is the sequel to their re-election on the Nov 11, 2023 cycle governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking shortly after inauguration, Diri expressed gratitude to Bayelsa people for renewing his mandate for a second term.

He assured Nigerians that he would vigorously pursue more development.

“We did not just count the four years; we made the years truly count by prudent use of public funds.

We did not abandon any project, we completed inherited projects and initiated new ones,and created opportunities for the people of Bayelsa” he said.

He promised to complete the Yenagoa-Oporoma road and the Nembe-Brass roads.

He assured of the power supply. Portable water and agriculture will be the priorities in the second term.

He sought the continued support of the people, the legislature and the judiciary in an atmosphere of love and unity to take Bayelsa to greater heights.

Dignitaries who witnessed the second term inauguration include Vice President Kashim Shettima, and former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.

The Vice President of Liberia, Jeremiah Koung, represented the President of Liberia Joseph Boakai at the event.

Also, the former Governor of Bayelsa who handed the baton on February 14, 2020, Sen. Seriake Dickson as well as serving governors and other dignitaries witnessed the occasion.
