DIG tasks personnel on professionalism, discipline

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Daniel Pedro, has urged officers and men of the Nigeria Police to be professional and ensure discipline in the course of their assigned duties.

Pedro, who is the DIG in charge of the South-South geopolitical zone said this during an interactive session with officers and men of the Akwa Ibom Command during his working visit.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo to newsmen.

John said the DIG charged personnel to be more dedicated to duties, shun acts of cowardice and extortion, and adopt intelligence-gathering techniques in the face of daunting security challenges.

He also urged the officers and men of the command to ensure discipline and adhere strictly to police tradition to protect the image of the police.

She quoted the DIG saying, “There’s a need to ensure discipline and professionalism in the discharge of your assigned duties as a police officer.”

The DIG spoke on the need for officers and men of the command to be updated on social media policies and be mindful of the fundamental human rights of citizens during the discharge of their professional duties.

Pedro cautioned officers and men on the importance of knowing when to use firearms in line with the Force Order to avoid sanction.

The PPRO said the DIG appreciated the efforts of the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom command, CP Waheed Ayilara in fighting crime in the State in his short period of stay.

The police spokesperson said the DIG paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Umo Eno and commended the governor for the support to the police command in Akwa Ibom, adding that the support has enhanced the war against crime in the state.

He promised the governor that the Police would be determined towards ensuring that Akwa Ibom is rid of criminal elements. 

The PPRO said Eno in his response appreciated the DIG for the visit and commended the Police for professionalism.

She said the governor expressed confidence in the Police under the Leadership of Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Eno described the Nigeria Police as a critical institution needed for a safe and secure society and promised more partnership, especially in terms of providing logistics.
