CSR: NSCDC conducts medical outreach in A'Ibom community

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom Command has conducted free medical outreach in Obio Offot community in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The State Commandant, Mr Eluyemi Eluwade, who declared the free outreach open on Thursday said that the Corps was reaching out to the good people of Akwa Ibom community, who have been so supportive of NSCDC in realising its core mandates, especially with intelligence sharing.

He said that the medical outreach would cover over 200 residents of the community, including elderly and women.

“This outreach is part our Corporate Social Responsibility to our host communities for all the support and collaboration we have enjoyed over the years. 

“As you know, health is wealth. Part of our mandate is to fight adulteration of petroleum products which can release very toxic gas that is inimical to our healthy lungs.

“We have Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists and drugs to treat basic ailments, as serious ones will be referred to the Teaching Hospital,” Eluwade said.

Eluwade said that the medical team will conduct free screening, test, consultation with a Medical Officer and dispensation of drugs for malaria, typhoid fever, pain, skin infection, high blood pressure, among others.

He added that outreach would be preceded by health talk on general wellness practice covering: importance of deworming, cancer awareness and early detection.

In his remarks, the Village Head of Obio Offot, Eteidung Cyril Umana, commended the NSCDC for graciously offering free health service to his community.

Umana, who was full of joy said that it was the first of its kind for any corporate organisation to come to the community with such gesture.

The Head of NSCDC Crisis Management Department, Deputy Commandant, Bassey Nkoyo, commended the University of Uyo, Teaching Hospital for assisting the Command with medical professionals to help in the outreach programme.
