The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentencing of one Alawa Godwin, before Justice O.A Fadipe of a Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.

Justice Fadipe sentenced the convict to one-year imprisonment for using false documents contrary to Section 364 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.

The convict was arraigned on February 23, 2022 and pleaded guilty to the one-count charge.

The charge reads: “That you ALAWA GODWIN USHIE sometime in the month of April 2021 at Ikeja within the Lagos Judicial Division with intent to defraud fraudulently used several false documents (Letter of Introduction, Promotion Letter; Appointment Letter, Letter of Confirmation of Appointment, Staff Identity card and Employee Pay Sip) purportedly issued by Lagos State Government as genuine.”

In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, Fadeke Giwa reviewed the facts of the case.

She told the court that sometime in April 2021, the defendant presented himself as a surety for a suspect under investigation and tendered false documents, claiming to be a Grade Level 14 officer of Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs.

She therefore urged the court to convict him as charged.

Justice Fadipe found him guilty of the offence and sentenced him accordingly
