Court remands student over attempted defilement of 3-year-old girl
A Magistrates Court in Kwara State has remanded a 21-year-old student, Adamu AbdulGaniyu, a resident of Ajijola Anabi Compound, Ita Kudima, Ilorin, Kwara State for allegedly abusing a 3-year-old girl sexually.
The mother of the girl, Maryam Zakariyau, reported the matter at the Oja Oba Police Division.
From the First Information Report (FIR), the minor broke silence on the matter while standing with her mother in front of their house when the suspect passed by.
The FIR reads in part: “Maryam told her mother that while she was in the suspect’s house to receive Arabic lessons, the suspect (Abdulganiyu) took her into his room, removed her pants, laid her on the mat and slept on top of her.”
The charge read: “Though a medical investigation conducted on the victim revealed that her hymen is still intact.”
Ruling on the matter, Magistrate Ibrahim Dasuki, ordered the remand of the suspect and adjourned to November 28, 2023.
