Court rejects Nnamdi Kanu's transport request for Abuja appeal

Prince Emmanuel Kanu, brother of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has reported that the Federal High Court in Abuja has declined to issue a warrant necessary for the transfer of his brother from Sokoto Prison to Abuja for an appeal record settlement.

Speaking to Daily Post on Thursday, Prince Emmanuel stated, “This summons requires Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to appear on November 28 at the Federal High Court in Abuja to settle records related to his appeal filed following the November 20 judgment.

“A production warrant is essential for the Sokoto Prison to transport him, but the court has refused to issue it.”

The summons, dated November 11, 2025, and signed by Principal Registrar Ojonugwa Thomas, stated: “Summons to parties by Registrar to settle records (In compliance with Order 8 Rule 2 of the Court of Appeal Rules, 2021).

“Take notice that all parties concerned are required to appear before me at the Appeal Section of the Federal High Court Headquarters, Plot 1048 (710), Cadastral Zone A100, Off Shehu Shagari Way, Central Business District, Abuja, on the 28th day of November, 2025, at 11:00 am, to proceed with the settlement of the record of appeal therein.”

The appeal, marked as FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2025, is filed by Nnamdi Kanu against the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He is currently serving a life sentence following his conviction on terrorism charges by Justice James Omotosho on November 20, 2025.
