Christmas: AIG orders strategic security deployment in Zone 5
The Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin, Mr Salman-Dogo Garba, has ordered the strategic deployment of police personnel and operational assets across the zone to ensure a peaceful yuletide celebration.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), SP Tijani Momoh.
Zone 5 comprises Edo and Delta states.
Garba said the deployment was aimed at guaranteeing a safe, hitch-free and seamless Christmas and New Year celebration, in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun.
He explained that security measures would be intensified through increased patrols, visibility policing and intelligence-led operations throughout the festive period.
According to him, security deployment will focus on places of worship, markets, recreational centres, amusement parks, event venues, transport terminals and other densely populated areas.
He added that patrol teams, surveillance units and traffic personnel have also been deployed along interstate routes, major highways and link roads to curb road-related crimes and ensure the free flow of traffic.
The AIG extended warm greetings to Christian faithful and other residents of the zone as they celebrate Christmas and the New Year. He urged members of the public to cooperate with the police and other security agencies, remain security conscious, and promptly report any suspicious activity or movement to the nearest police station.
