The Bayelsa State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon Dauprebo Ikuromo, has called on newly defecting members to remain committed to the party’s ideology and vision.
Ikuromo appealed on Monday shortly after a defection rally at the NDC Secretariat along Isaac Boro Expressway in Yenagoa. The event witnessed the formal defection of a prominent politician, popularly known as “Youth Governor”, Doubara Kumokou, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the NDC.
He said the NDC, founded by an Ijaw leader, was already making a notable impact on Nigeria’s political landscape. According to him, the party’s growing acceptance at the grassroots level signals the beginning of a political renaissance in Bayelsa State.
The chairman urged politicians across the state to rediscover their political relevance through the NDC platform, which he described as a vehicle for empowerment and service delivery. He stressed that the party remains firmly people-centred.
Ikuromo also expressed appreciation to the party’s founder, Senator Seriake Dickson; the National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleapas; and members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly representing Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituencies I and II, Hon Godbless Oyinke and Hon Wisdom Fafi. He further acknowledged High Chief Seles Saboh, Senior Comrade Doubara Kumokou and Chief Fyneman Wilson for their contributions to the party’s growth.
He thanked supporters across the state, noting that although the party is still in its formative stage, it holds strong prospects for transforming Bayelsa and improving the lives of its people.
Reaffirming the NDC’s commitment to peace and development, Ikuromo said the party would continue to pursue service-oriented leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Kumokou said he was drawn to the newly registered party because its ideology aligns with his vision for youth development. He pledged to work tirelessly to expand the party’s reach and ensure its widespread acceptance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
