The Bayelsa College of Health Technology has commended the Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) for support in attaining full accreditation for all courses.

Mrs Victoria Denenu, Chairman of the Governing Council, Bayelsa College of Health Technology, Otuogidi, made the commendation at the inauguration ceremony of a 30KVA solar inverter-powered water borehole system at the institution on Thursday.

Denenu recalled that previous intervention projects by the EDTF assisted the institution in meeting the accreditation criteria, resulting in recent full accreditation for all courses run by the institution.

“We cannot thank you enough for your various projects you have assisted our college with, which include:

“Provision of a 110KVA New Generator set, 20 HP Laptops, 10 HP desktops, 3 Big Sharp Photocopiers, 2 HP Colour printers and 2 Digital Dental Chairs with (Unit).

“The provision of this equipment has accelerated the successful Accreditation of our Departments and programmes by their various regulatory bodies,” she said.

The Provost, Dr. Timipa Richard Ogoun, pledged to put the water projects to good use and maintain the previous projects funded by the EDTF in the institution.

He noted that the EDTF approved all seven requests made by the institution in quest to get full accreditation and improve teaching and learning.

Hon Tobias James, who led the EDTF team to the event, noted that the interventionist agency was saddled with the responsibility of providing support in critical areas across all levels of the educational sector in the state.

He explained that the EDTF was impressed by the judicious deployment of the initial support given to the institution, which provided justification for continued support.

The Commissioner of Education, Dr Gentle Emelah, who was represented by Mr Monday Ekeh, Director, Exams and Records, noted that the institution is very strategic in meeting the manpower needs in the health sector, hence the priority it is getting from the state government.

The solar-powered water project has a water storage capacity of 30,000 litres with power backup by an inverter capable of functioning for 24 hours even on less sunny days and rainy season.

The EDTF also inaugurated a water project at Government Girls Secondary School, Nembe, executed in collaboration with Ama Sei Humanitarian Foundation.

Chief Richina David, Secretary of the foundation, explained that the Non-Governmental Organisation was delighted to partner with the EDTF in the water project, which will uplift the livelihood of the benefiting school and surrounding communities.

Mrs Ayerite Nengiefa, Principal of the benefiting school, appreciated EDTF for the gesture and thanked the host communities for their support to the school.

A community leader in the area, Alabo K.M. Degi, said that water is life, and by providing portable water to the school and surrounding communities, the EDTF and Ama Sei Humanitarian Foundation have contributed significantly to the welfare of the Nembe community.

He assured that the facility would be guarded jealously by the communities that the project would serve.
