Gov Douye Diri of Bayelsa has approved N 192 million for payment of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) Senior Secondary Schools Certificate examinations fees for 2011 students.

The beneficiaries are drawn from the 13 Government Model Secondary Schools across the state participating in the examinations in 2024.

Chief Ayibaina Duba, Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy stated this in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Yenagoa.

Duba explained that the approval is in continuation of the established practice of the governor in the last four years.

Duba said that the annual payment of WAEC and NECO examinations is part of the administration’s deliberate investment in education and human capital development which has been one of the major thrusts of the Diri administration.

According to Duba, in addition to WAEC and NECO fees, the government funds the Unified Primary School Leaving Examinations and Junior Secondary School Certificate Examinations at no cost to the parents and wards.

He noted that the commitment of the governor to progressive ideas and projects in the education sector was borne out of Diri’s belief that education is the best legacy a society can bequeath to the upcoming generation.

Duba urged Bayelsa people of all walks of life to look forward to the second tenure of Diri with great optimism assuring that Bayelsa is yet to see the best of the transformative leader.
