Bakassi attack claims six amid mixed reaction from BnL, Cameroon

Reactions have continued to trail the invasion of the camp of suspected militant loyalists of the Biafra Nations League, (BnL) by the Cameroonian Forces in Bakassi Peninsula that claimed six lives.

Top sources said authorities in Cameroon have continued to keep mum over the incident that left five soldiers dead.

Cameroon citizens have expressed worry over the increasing insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea arising from activities of the Biafra separatists’ group in the maritime border towns; many have taken to their social media handles protesting to the Cameroonian authority to speak while some have submitted that Biafra extending operations to Cameroonian territory was an act of annexation of Cameroon territory.

Some supporters of BnL in South East Nigeria have also reacted against the Cameroon Force’s invasion, insisting that the BnL did not extend to Cameroon territory.

Recall that Cameroonian Forces control the area ceded to them by the government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the part of the Peninsula controlled by Cameroon includes the area now called Isangele subdivision where the members of the Rapid d’intervention Battalion (BIR) stormed to root out the suspected militants linked to the BnL.

National Leader of BnL, Princewill Richards while reacting dismissed allegations that BnL is annexing Cameroon’s territory but added that the BnL had in the past refused to recognize Cameroonian ownership of the ceded Bakassi Peninsula.

Richards said the area BnL is operating is part of the Eastern region despite Cameroonian Forces’ control of the waterways. He said the motives of BnL should not be misunderstood adding that the struggle for Biafra will be fought from different angles and in all fronts, and warned Cameroonian authority to steer clear of the Biafran movement.

Five soldiers and one separatist fighter were by gunfire following the invasion of the separatist militant camp by the operatives of the BIR Delta, a Cameroonian military unit.

Reports said that the Cameroonian Forces eliminated two Biafran flags hung on wooden polls about five minutes drive to the camp in Isangele, Bakassi Peninsula.

Separatist militant, Black Marine, a suspected armed group working for the Biafra Nations League, (BnL), while confirming the attack said it responded with full force but lost one man to the military firepower.

Reports added that five of the BIR soldiers and one separatist were gunned down during an exchange of gunfire that lasted for about an hour.

Bakassi Peninsula is experiencing another round of conflict amid renewed Biafra movement in Nigeria.

BnL, a separatist group that operates around Cameroonian borders and Bakassi Peninsula have many armed units loyal to them.
