APC begins e-registration exercise in Ikorodu

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos State have commenced an electronic membership registration exercise aimed at strengthening internal party democracy and organisational capacity.
The exercise was announced during the distribution of registration materials to party agents at the APC secretariat in the Ota-Ona area of Ikorodu.
CitizenDiary reports that the e-registration will be conducted across all 30 wards in Ikorodu LGA.
Items distributed for the exercise included iPads, printers and reams of paper to facilitate seamless registration at the grassroots.
Speaking after the distribution, the APC Ikorodu Divisional Chairman, Mr Olasunkanmi Tijani, urged party members to demonstrate commitment by participating actively in the exercise. He said the initiative would help strengthen the party’s database and enhance its organisational structure.
Tijani noted that Ikorodu LGA has consistently set the pace electorally, having recorded the highest votes for APC candidates in the 2023 general elections, including the legislative, governorship and presidential polls in Lagos State.
“The programme has been gazetted to commence from the wards, and whatever is done at the ward level is good to go,” he said.
“After the wards, we will move to the zones. Once you get to the zones, it is almost like registering nearly everyone in an area.
“The strategy is to move from wards to zones, and from zones to streets. You will be surprised that we may even exceed our expectations.”
In his remarks, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, said the registration gadgets had been tested and found to be functional, adding that network availability might be the only challenge.
He expressed optimism that the exercise would be effective across the area during the stipulated 25-day registration period.
“The registration items have been tested and confirmed. The only likely challenge is when there is no network,” Ogunleye said.
“With the 25 days earmarked for the registration, I am confident we will surpass our previous vote figures, as many people are eager to join the APC.”
Also speaking, a former Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Olorunfunmi Bashorun, described the initiative as a step in the right direction, noting that it would increase party membership and enable more people to benefit from the dividends of democracy.
Earlier, one of the registration agents, Mr Ezekiel Folorunsho, expressed appreciation to the party leadership for commencing the exercise after several training sessions. He also advised his colleagues to handle the gadgets with care to ensure optimal performance.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has promised that the local government with the highest number of registered members would receive a cash reward.
