Police nab 23-year-old suspect with loaded shotgun
Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a 23-year-old Mfon Essien along Ayah Road, off Uyo Road, Ikot Ekpene.
Acting on credible intelligence, on 6th September 2026 at about 12:30 pm, police intercepted Essien, a resident of Ikot Inyang Itak Village in Ikono Local Government Area. They recovered a locally made shotgun loaded with a live cartridge concealed in his clothing.

The suspect is in custody as police investigate the origin of the firearm, his intent, and potential links to criminal networks.
DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing to eradicate illegal firearms in the state.
He urged the public to report suspicious activity, assuring that all informants’ identities will remain confidential.
