Police rescue kidnap victim, arrest eight suspects in Delta
The Delta State Police Command has rescued a woman abducted by armed men in Sapele and arrested eight suspects in connection with an attempted murder investigation in Abraka.
The command also recovered three locally made pistols, Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs during separate operations in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Friday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale.
Edafe said the woman was abducted at about 7:45pm on September 2 after armed men ambushed her at the entrance to her residence along Eko-Amukpe Road, Sapele.
According to him, the assailants fired several shots into the air before forcing the woman into a nearby bush.
On receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, Sapele Division, mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to the area.
Police operatives recovered expended AK-47 ammunition shells at the scene before beginning a search of the surrounding bushes with the assistance of local vigilantes.
Edafe said the search continued throughout the night and into the morning of September 3, putting pressure on the kidnappers and forcing them to abandon their victim and flee.
The woman was subsequently found unharmed and reunited with her family.
The command has since intensified efforts to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation, operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, acting on intelligence, raided suspected criminal hideouts in Abraka in connection with an attempted murder case reported on September 3.
Eight suspects were arrested during the operation. They were identified as Evans Adamda, Mamatime Micheal, Wale Morakinya, Anabono, Godspower, Theophilus Philip, Robinson Oghenewiro and Inoni Ejiroghene.
The police said three locally made pistols, Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs were recovered during the operation.
“The suspects and exhibits are currently in police custody, while investigation continues to determine their individual involvement in the attempted murder and other criminal activities in the area,” Edafe said.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers and local vigilantes involved in the rescue operation and the arrests.
Earle assured residents that the command would sustain intelligence-led operations against kidnappers, cultists and other criminal elements across the state.
He urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to the police to help prevent crime, rescue victims and bring suspected offenders to justice.
