Reps drop own state police bill for Tinubu’s

The House of Representatives has withdrawn its proposed constitutional amendment bill on the establishment of state police and will instead consider a similar Executive Bill transmitted by President Bola Tinubu.

The decision was announced during Tuesday’s plenary after the Executive-sponsored bill passed its first and second readings.

The bill was subsequently referred to the House Committee on Constitution Review for further legislative consideration.

The move effectively sets aside the House’s earlier proposal as lawmakers shift attention to the Executive-backed legislation.

The committee is expected to scrutinise the bill’s provisions before presenting its report to the House for further debate and consideration.
