The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, has called for the immediate rescue of a primary school headmaster abducted in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, describing the incident as another troubling sign of the worsening security situation facing teachers.

A statement issued on Monday, the union said Mr M.K. Owoade, Headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye, was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen while working on his farm at about 5 pm on Saturday, 11 July 2026.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, has called for the immediate rescue of a primary school headmaster abducted in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, describing the incident as another troubling sign of the worsening security situation facing teachers.

A statement issued on Monday, the union said Mr M.K. Owoade, Headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye, was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen while working on his farm at about 5 pm on Saturday, 11 July 2026.

In a joint statement, the Oyo State Chairman of the NUT, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, and the State Secretary, Comrade Salami Olukayode, called for the headmaster’s immediate rescue.

According to the union, the abduction was reported to the state leadership through an emergency notification from the NUT branch in Itesiwaju Local Government Area.

The union described the incident as deeply disturbing and said it underscored the growing insecurity confronting teachers and other education workers across the country.

It urged the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure the headmaster’s immediate and safe release.

The NUT also called for stronger measures to protect teachers, pupils and other citizens in schools and their communities.

It also expressed solidarity with the abducted headmaster’s family, colleagues and pupils, prayed for his safe and speedy release, and urged teachers to remain security-conscious.

The union further prayed for divine protection over Nigerians and expressed hope that the abducted headmaster would regain his freedom unharmed as efforts to rescue him continue.
