The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar Yakubu, has marked his administration’s first 100 days in office, highlighting major reforms, strategic partnerships and institutional progress aimed at repositioning the Guild for global relevance.
Addressing members of the Board of Trustees, national and state executives, Nollywood veterans, stakeholders and partners, Yakubu described the milestone as 100 days of purposeful, inclusive and reform-driven leadership.
He said his administration assumed office with a clear commitment to provide visionary and transparent leadership that would unite members, restore confidence and reposition the Guild as a stronger, more credible and professionally respected institution.
According to him, the administration’s agenda is built on five key pillars: inclusivity and unity, institutional reform, welfare, strategic partnerships and global competitiveness.
Yakubu stressed that every member of the Guild matters, regardless of status or location, noting that both veteran and emerging actors, whether in Nigeria or the diaspora, deserve equal recognition and opportunities.
He disclosed that within the first 100 days, the Guild had engaged major institutions including MTN Nigeria, Globacom and the Indian High Commission to Nigeria on initiatives centred on digital empowerment, capacity development and industry support.
He said these engagements were part of broader efforts to strengthen AGN’s relevance within national development and boost corporate confidence in the Guild.
Highlighting achievements recorded so far, Yakubu listed a nationwide stakeholder engagement tour, International Women’s Day celebration, national membership screening and verification exercise, introduction of a new AGN identity card, UK-Nigeria Creative Roundtable and Awards in London, partnerships with the Content Creators Association of Zimbabwe and the Actors Guild of Sierra Leone, participation in the Windsor International Black Film Festival in Canada, Health Awareness Week, welfare interventions, successful Edo State elections, support for sick members and dispute resolution initiatives.
Yakubu noted that the administration was already pursuing additional transformative projects, including the AGN Performers’ Rights Society, full unionisation of the Guild, Screen Actors Awards, Patrons’ Investiture and Awards Night, AGN Regional Creative Summits, a consultative forum and broader corporate partnerships.
He said these initiatives were designed to secure AGN’s future as a digitised institution capable of competing and collaborating globally.
The AGN President also expressed gratitude to President Emeritus, Dr Ejezie Emeka Rollas, MON, the Board of Trustees, National Executive Council, state executives, industry veterans, stakeholders and members across Nigeria and the diaspora for their support.
“As we move forward, let us remain united in purpose and committed to the collective progress of our Guild and our industry,” he said.
Yakubu added that the administration had laid a solid foundation for sustainable growth, insisting that the future of the Actors Guild of Nigeria is now brighter than ever.
