NOA urges A’Ibom citizens to embrace CVR as civic duty
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Akwa Ibom citizens of voting age to ensure they participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to enable them to vote in future elections.
The State Director of NOA, Mr Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, said this on Thursday when he played host to Mr Obo Effanga, Akwa Ibom Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in his office.
Mkpoutom urged citizens to participate in the continuous voter registration exercise as a civic responsibility, emphasising its importance for inclusive governance.
He added that in every democratic society the right to vote is foundational and that it empowers citizens to elect leaders who reflect their hopes, needs and aspirations.
“One of the key components of this process is the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which is designed to facilitate the inclusion of eligible citizens in the electoral process.
“We use this opportunity to make a passionate appeal to civil society, community leaders, the media and the public to support INEC in its efforts in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise,” he said.
Earlier, Effanga said the visit was to strengthen the existing partnership and collaboration between the two sister agencies and to appreciate the effort of NOA in mobilising citizens for active participation in the ongoing exercise.
The resident electoral commissioner commended NOA in its efforts to constantly create awareness of the Akwa Ibom citizens on key issues that promote peace and development through its programmes.
The REC said that the CVR exercise was essential, as it provided the opportunity for new voters to register and participate in the electoral process, which is crucial for a representative democracy.
Effanga added that the exercise was also for those whose details were now outdated due to various factors, including demographic changes and the passing of registered voters.
He said, “The CVR ensures that the register remains accurate and reflective of the current population, and it enhances civic engagement.”
