ANPA passes vote of confidence on Eno, plans cooperative society for publishers

The Amalgamated Newspaper Publishers Association (ANPA), Akwa Ibom State, has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, applauding his sterling performance in office and commitment to inclusive governance across the state.

This resolution was part of a communiqué issued at the end of a brainstorming session held on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the Ceedapeg Hotel, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo.

The meeting brought together publishers and media stakeholders under ANPA to deliberate on the state of the publishing industry and governance in Akwa Ibom State.

According to the communiqué, the association praised Governor Eno for his “visible developmental strides in all sectors of the state’s economy,” which they noted are in accord with the administration’s ARISE Agenda.

The publishers further lauded the governor’s exceptional ability to unify the state’s political landscape, describing it as “unprecedented in the political history of Akwa Ibom State.”

In a strong show of solidarity, the publishers pledged their unwavering support for the governor’s administration, vowing to continue promoting responsible journalism and supporting democratic governance in the state.

The association also announced plans to float a Cooperative Society for Publishers to enhance the welfare and economic empowerment of members.

The initiative is expected to serve as a platform for shared financial growth, professional support, and long-term sustainability in the publishing sector.

Members were encouraged to key into the vision as a way of strengthening their collective capacity.

The communiqué was signed by Comrade Anietie Esu, Chairman, Communiqué Drafting Committee, Mfonobong Ukpong, Secretary, and Bassey Effiong (Member), and endorsed by the ANPA Chairman, Comrade Osuini Abasi Alfred (JP), alongside Protem Secretary, Comrade Victor Charles Ukpong.

The meeting reaffirmed ANPA’s commitment to fostering a vibrant media landscape in Akwa Ibom State while supporting policies that promote transparency, good governance, and development.
