Gas firm opens depot, tasks residents to embrace product
A Gas firm, COGEPET Energy Resources Limited has opened a new gas terminal in Uyo and urged residents to embrace the product to enhance their cooking.
Mr Utuk Nkanga, Chairman of COGEPET Energy Resources Limited during the official opening of the gas depot in Uyo said the gas terminal was to ensure that Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) penetrates the rural communities.
Nkanga said the facility has sufficient land for the construction of a gas depot that could feed the communities, the entire Akwa Ibom and beyond.
He tasked residents to embrace the use of cooking gas as it is the cleanest, cheapest and most environmentally friendly energy source, compared to kerosene, firewood and other domestic energy sources.
Nkanga, who had been in the oil and gas industry for over 30 years before venturing into private business after retirement said he decided to bring a clean energy source to his immediate community and state as part of his contribution to enhance the economy.
“With the first of its kind, digital facilities, and state-of-the-art equipment, the company hopes to take the lead in the domestic gas sector in the next couple of months.
“We want to ensure that Akwa Ibom people enjoy cheap, healthier and cheaper energy sources.
“I urge Akwa Ibom residents to embrace COGEPET Energy to bridge the LPG infrastructure gap,” Nkanga said.
Nkanga also called on the Akwa Ibom Government to support and encourage indigenes venturing into the gas domestic energy source to add value to the growth of the economy.
In his remarks, Executive Director of Administration, Mrs Victoria Imoh, said that the company is committed to quality service delivery.
Imoh said that although gas price fluctuates often, the product remains pocket and environmentally friendly.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the community leader, from Ikot Ekpeyak Ikono, Mr Friday Ekwere, thanked the chairman of COGEPET for opening the gas terminal closer to the people.
