Assassins invade Ukanafun, kill monarch in A’Ibom

Gunmen suspected to be hired assassins invaded Nkek Abak Community in the Ukanafun Local Government Area and shut dead Chief Ikpe Akpan Udoidiong; the family head of Okop Ide, Nkek Abak.

It would be recalled that a 35-year-old tricycle rider from the same community identified simply as Emem was also shot dead a fortnight ago.

The victim, it was gathered was killed by a terrorist who is said to be an indigene of the community.

The assailant was said to be on a “one-man operation” as he disposed people of their valuables including motorcycles at will.

On the fateful day, the latest victim who was on a chartered trip to the community, was shot dead by attackers.

Meanwhile, the latest victim and deceased, aged 65 years, was said to have been shot in the head in the presence of his wife; he died instantly.

Our correspondent gathered that the killers were said to have gone to the deceased compound on a motorcycle to carry out the crime. They were also said to have left a verbal note that they were sent, shortly before they fled.

When contacted, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Timfon John did not respond to calls or text messages sent to her mobile phone.

However, security operatives in Ukanafun confirmed the killing, saying, “It is true. The case has been reported to Ukanafun Division and we are on a manhunt for the perpetrators. We will certainly get them.”
