Man cuts electricity worker hand for trying to disconnect power

A worker of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc. (EEDC), Obiajulu Atta, was macheted for trying to disconnect a debtor customer from electricity.

A statement from the EEDC on Wednesday, said a customer attacked one of their workers, identified as Obiajulu Atta, an operations technician attached to Umudike Service Centre under Umuahia District, Abia State.

EEDC in a statement said: “A staff of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) identified as Obiajulu Atta, an operations technician attached to Umudike Service Centre under Umuahia District, Abia State was attacked this afternoon by a customer.

“The customer, whose full details are yet to be known was to be disconnected for non-payment of electricity bill, in the process he got infuriated, went for a machete and cut Obiajulu’s hand.

“First aid was immediately administered on the victim at a private clinic and subquently rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, for proper medical attention. Further details will be made known subsequently.”
