AKHA confirms Ekpo as chairman, others as SUBEB members

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, on Wednesday confirmed the appointments of Mr Paul Ekpo, former State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as chairman Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The chairman of the Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions, Mr Victor Ekwere, and member representing Mkpat Enin, presented the report for confirmation at plenary.

Ekwere, while delivering the committee’s report, stated that the nominees were duly screened with no impediments found against them.

According to him, the nominees were persons of good repute and prayed the House to ratify their appointments.

The state governor, Udom Emmanuel had, in a message to the Speaker at the Plenary on February 9 submitted the names of Ekpo and four others for ratification as board members.

Other members confirmed into SUBEB board are: Mr Godwin Enoidem, Mr Ekong Ambrose, Mr Iniobong Akpan and Mr Johnny Udo.

Subsequently, the House after considering the report at the Committee of the Whole, cleared and confirmed the nominees for appointments.

In his remarks, Speaker of the House, Mr Aniekan Bassey, directed the Clerk, Mrs Mandu Umoren to communicate the resolution of the House to the State governor for action.

Speaking at the plenary also, A Bill for a Law to Establish the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency and for Other Matters Connected therewith sponsored by Mr Udeme Otong, PDP Abak was read the second time.

The bill was committed to the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges for legislative action.

Meanwhile, the House adjourned its plenary to reconvene on February 23.
