Bandits kidnap female students of Zamfara varsity

Bandits have invaded the hostels of undergraduates of Federal University Gusau, FUG, in Sabin Gida area of Zamfara State, and abducted an unspecified number of female students in the early hours of Friday, 22 September 2023.

The bandits were said to have stormed the three female student hostels at night and took away many students. The number of those abducted could not be specified, a source said.

The source added that the number of those who were taken away by the bandits was many. He noted that some narrowly escaped and that no one knows how many were abducted.

“Many of the female students were kidnapped by the bandits except those who narrowly escaped.

“We are yet to confirm the number of students abducted but the bandits entered three hostels and kidnapped all the students living there.

“Now it is hard to tell the numbers of the kidnapped victims.”

Another source from the same area told Vanguard that the bandits engaged troops of the Nigerian Army in a fierce gun battle but that it did not stop the bandits from escaping with the kidnap victims.

The source said: “In fact, it was a terrible and serious battle between the armed bandits and the Nigerian troops. Yet the bandits managed to escape with the kidnapped victims.”

The spokesman of the university, Umar Usman, could not be reached for comments as he did not answer calls made to his telephone.

Likewise, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Yazid, only responded through text message, thus: “In a meeting. Will call u back later.”
