Court remands unemployed man over alleged armed robbery

An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, on Thursday, remanded a 29-year-old unemployed man, Yahaya Falana for alleged armed robbery.
The suspect, whose address was not provided, is facing four counts bordering on conspiracy, felony to wit arm robbery, threat to life with a dangerous weapon, and armed robbery.
The Magistrate, Mr. A.O. Ogbe, who did not take the suspect’s plea, ordered that he be remanded at the Kirikiri custodial facility.
Ogbe ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for advice and adjourned the case until September 28 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that Falana committed the offences on August 4 at No. 25, Temidire Street in the Ibeshe area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Famuyiwa added that Falana with others at large threatened the complainant, Mr Lawal Alade of the same address with dangerous weapons.
The prosecutor added that the accused person with others at large at gunpoint forcefully took away one Mercedes-Benz car valued at N7.6 million and one Honda Cross tour car valued at N3.8 million.
According to the prosecutor, the suspect also took away some jewellery valued at N2 million and an HP laptop valued at N840,000.
Other items are one N680,000 iPhone 12 Promax, and eight other phones, value yet to be determined; all property of the complainant.
The prosecutor added that the suspect attempted to rape one lady during the robbery when they broke into the house to commit the robbery.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened sections 411, 56(1) b (2), 297, and 262 of the criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.
