Easter celebration: FRSC deploys 606 officers, men to ensure safety on roads

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 606 officers and men to ensure safety on the roads during the Easter celebration in Akwa Ibom.

The Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, Mr Matthew Olonisaye, said this in a statement issued in Uyo and made available to newsmen on Thursday.

Olonisaye said to ensure smooth and accident-free Easter celebration in the state, the command had deployed 11 Patrol Vehicles and two Ambulances, while adequate arrangement is being made for tow trucks to clear any obstruction.

“In a bid to ensure safety of all road users, cautions motorists against reckless driving, 606 Personnel including Special Marshals, have been deployed strategically to man major routes across the state ahead of the Easter Season Celebration, and to ensure free flow of traffic within and out of the state.

“To enable seamless and effective coverage of all critical traffic corridors and areas in the state, 11 Patrol Vehicles and two Ambulances are also deployed, while adequate arrangement is being made for tow trucks to clear any obstruction during the period,” Olonisaye said.

The sector commander urged drivers and all road users to be cautious and avoid recklessness while on the roads, stressing that only the living celebrates.

He warned against dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, driving against traffic, speeding and overloading the vehicles with passengers and goods.

Olonisaye appealed to drivers to imbibe the habit of being patient when driving in unfamiliar or on bad roads.

“Drivers and other road users are advised to tread with caution as only the living celebrates.

“To minimize road carnages, we must, as a matter of safety, avoid any display or demonstration of recklessness; speeding, dangerous and wrongful overtaking, driving against traffic, overloading with goods and passengers for haulage trucks.

“They are to obey all traffic signs, signals and markings communicating certain road characteristics and features, obey applicable speed limits or apply common sense speed limits at best,” he advised.

The sector commander called on the general public to remain active by observing traffic rules and regulations and promptly report any road incidence and other emergencies to the FRSC Toll-free line – 122.
