A’Ibom assembly receives names of six commissioner nominees

The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly on Monday at plenary received names of six commissioner nominees for ratification.
The Clerk of the House, Mrs Mandu Umoren, read the six names of the nominees from a letter sent to the House by Gov. Udom Emmanuel.
According to the letter, the nominees are; Messrs Bassey Okon, Offiong Ofor, Aniefiok Nkom, Iniobong Ekong, Bob Emem, and Camillus Umoh.
The Speaker of the House, Mr Aniekan Bassey, referred the list of nominees to the House Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions for further action and to report back within 24 hours.
Also at plenary a bill to regulate outdoor advertising in Akwa Ibom passed through second reading at the state house of assembly.
The Leader of the House, Mr Udo Kierian – PDP (Oruk Anam), who led the debate on the bill, said the bill, when passed, will regulate the placement of outdoor advertising structures across the state.
“Under the bill, every outdoor advertising agent shall register with a relevant government Ministry or Agency with unique registration numbers assigned to every outdoor structure.
“The bill will prevent disorderliness and double taxation by providing a clear-cut law for the advertising industry in the state,” he said.
The bill, which was unanimously supported by lawmakers, was referred to the House Committee on Environment for further legislative action and to report back within one month.
