38 abducted Kwara worshippers finally regain freedom
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has confirmed the release of 38 people abducted during the recent attack on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area.
The victims regained their freedom on Sunday, November 23, after several days of coordinated rescue efforts by security agencies and government officials.
Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, announced the development in a statement on Sunday. He said Governor AbdulRazaq credited the successful rescue operation to the “hands-on approach” of President Bola Tinubu, who ordered decisive measures to secure the victims’ release.
According to the statement, the President suspended his planned trip to the G20 meeting in South Africa to address the security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi States. He also directed increased security deployments to Kwara, underscoring his commitment to citizens’ safety.
“The abductees were freed today, November 23,” the statement added.
AbdulRazaq expressed gratitude to the President, describing the rescue as a direct result of his intervention. He also thanked the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force, which deployed four new tactical units to the state.
The governor further appreciated religious leaders, community influencers, and residents of Kwara State for their support throughout the ordeal.
The victims’ safe return brings much-needed relief to the community after the traumatic incident that drew nationwide concern.
