2Baba, Blackface, Faze reunite at tribute for Sound Sultan

The defunct music group Plantashun Boiz which was made up of 2Baba, Blackface, Faze got together again on Saturday after a long time at a tribute organised in honour of singer-songwriter Sound Sultan.

Sound Sultan, born Olanrewaju Fasasi, died on July 11 in the United States after battling throat cancer. He has since been buried.

Sound Sultan worked closely with Plantashun Boiz back in the days.

Showbiz guru Edi Lawani spoke at the tribute, recalling how he helped bring the group to limelight.

“In the spirit of what Sound Sultan represents, these are my three sons here,” he said, referring to 2Baba, Faze and Blackface.

“When they broke up I cried, when Sultan died I cried,” he added.

Mr Lawani called up to the stage Nelson Brown who produced Plantashun Boiz’ albums and had all including Sound Sultan’s elder brother Baba Dee rededicate themselves to the brotherhood.

The gesture appeared to have marked the end of the dispute between Blackface and 2Baba formerly 2Face Idibia.

Blackface had for several years accused 2Baba of stealing the song ‘African Queen’ from him. The song which was released in 2004 announced 2Face to the international stage, earning him awards.
