A 29-year-old lady and graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Oluwatoshin Adefisayo, was raped and strangled by her fellow tenant’s son, Ikenna James, 23 and his friend, who is now at large.
The operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, who arrested the 23 years old Ikenna, who lives in the same compound as the deceased, said the suspect planned with his friend to humiliate the lady.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, added that the two men broke into the apartment of the deceased at night by removing the ceiling while she was fast asleep and raped her before strangling her.
Oyeyemi said: “The neighbours including the parents of the suspect woke up in the morning only to discover that the apartment of the deceased had been broken into.
“The neighbours invited the local vigilante to the scene, and while at the scene, Ikenna was seen coming down from the ceiling where he has been hiding after the dastardly act.
“He was quickly held down while a distress call was made to the police at Ogijo divisional headquarters.
“The DPO Ogijo division, CSP Onatufeh Umoh, quickly led his men to the scene and got the suspect arrested.
“On interrogation, Ikenna James whose partner in crime has run away confessed to the commission of the crime. He also informed the police that they decided to kill the victim after raping her because they discovered that she recognized them.
“Ikenna’s parents who described his arrest as good riddance to bad rubbish submitted that they have already given up on him as he is the black sheep of the family.
“They also appealed to the authority concerned to ensure that appropriate punishment is awarded against him.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation. He has also directed that his accomplice be hunted and brought to book.
