2023: PDP governorship candidate, Umo Eno unveils critical goals

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Umo Eno, has unveiled critical goals that he hopes to achieve if voted into power.

Eno announced this when he met with the leadership of professional bodies, and community leaders in the state, on Sunday.

The programme tagged: “Umo Eno Town Hall Series season 1, was organised on Sunday in Uyo by Connect Initiative” a socio-political organisation based in the state.

Speaking while unveiling his programme, Eno listed his priorities to include job creation, stability in the prices of foodstuff, improvement in the standard of living of the people, environmental sustainability, agricultural development, security and tourism development among others.

In the area of Agriculture, the governorship candidate said his administration would put in the necessary machinery to revolutionise agriculture in the state.

Eno said that the first thing his administration would do is to ensure that the people return and embrace agriculture as a deliberate plan of providing food for the people.

He said his administration would vigorously pursue a rural development policy that would improve the standard of living of the people, especially among the rural dwellers to reduce rural-urban migration in the state

“The standard of living of the people has to be improved especially in the rural areas.

“This is one area that we intend to concentrate on as an administrator. Our standard of living will have to be improved by giving our people the basic necessities of life such as electricity, roads, markets and schools. This we believe will stem rural-urban migration”

Eno who disclosed that his administration is planning big in the area of tourism also said his administration intends to create a highly educated, healthy and skilled populace in the state,” Eno said.

He decried that global warming has taken its tolls in the world.

The PDP candidate said his administration would ensure environmental sustainability having discovered that most communities are seriously facing the challenges of erosion and other environmental hazards

“Global warming is seriously taking its toll in the world today.

“We need to put our hands together. Everywhere, we went on campaign in the local government areas, most of the challenges facing the people are erosion and these are part of our environment, and we need to do a lot of work in that area,” he said.

Our correspondent reports that leadership of various professional bodies and associations including the Nigeria Medical Association, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nigeria Society of Engineers, Academic Staff Unions of Universities, Nigeria Bar Association and a host of others attended the town hall meeting.
