2 Brigade wins A’Ibom security agencies’ small arms contest
Headquarters 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has emerged overall winner of the 2025 Akwa Ibom State Security Agencies Small Arms Competition held at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Abak.
The brigade clinched the top spot with 376 points, ahead of the DSS, which came second with 267 points, while NNS Jubilee placed third with 255 points.
Speaking at the closing ceremony on Thursday, Commander 2 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 4 Joint Taskforce South South, Brig.-Gen. Nnabueze Okoloagu said the competition was organised to promote synergy, cooperation, and interoperability among security agencies, including the Army, Navy, DSS and Police.
He said the exercise was also aimed at improving the proficiency, fitness, and operational bonding of personnel across the services.
“The exercise strengthens our understanding of each other’s capabilities and competencies,” he said, commending officers for their spirited participation.
Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, Gen. Koko Essien (rtd.), used the event to warn criminal elements to steer clear of the state, stressing that security agencies were fully prepared to guarantee a peaceful festive season.
Essien said the competition equips officers with the skills needed to tackle security threats, adding that regular proficiency tests help maintain combat readiness.
“We are entering the yuletide season — a period when criminals like to show their fangs. This exercise sends them a direct message: We are fully prepared,” he said.
He also cautioned social media users against spreading false information capable of causing panic, warning that violators would face the law.
Essien assured residents that the state government has put adequate measures in place to protect lives and property throughout the festive period.
