Youth leader criticises Diri over duplicity of street lights

Nathan Tamarapreye, Yenagoa

Mr Ebiye Appah, a youth leader in the Kaiama community, Bayelsa State, on Friday, criticised Governor Douye Diri-led government over duplication of street lights at Odi community of Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA.

The youth leader condemned the waste of public funds on projects already funded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by Bayelsa State government.

He noted that the state government was embarking on the project merely to score cheap points in the forthcoming Nov. 11 polls.

Appah who reacted to the development in a statement in Yenagoa, urged the government to spread the street light to other communities.

“It is absurd that the state government has just begun mounting about 2000 street lights at Odi when the APC federal government through NDDC has already started lighting up Odi.

“Painfully, in some sections, you will see the state government street lights mounted side by side with that of the federal government. What a waste and what a cacophony! Just to duplicate the good work APC has been doing in Odi?

“I advise the state government to bring the extra street lights to Kaiama instead and allow NDDC to finish the lighting up of the Odi community, a project they have started already. Kaiama is in Dire need of government attention.

“I urge the state government and all those influential in it to reconsider sending the solar lights to Kaiama or any other community without street lights. Some things should not exist only in the galaxy of politics, especially development,” the youth leader said.

Appah commended the NDDC leadership and those who conceived the project of lighting up Odi for their thoughtfulness and sincerity, urging them to remember other communities the instance they are done with Odi.
