*demand jobs, end of AKSU strike, payment of gratuities
Joseph Atainyang, Uyo
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has been under fire on Friday, May 28, 2021 as angry youths of the state have invaded his official Facebook page, demanding jobs, end of strike for the staffers of Akwa Ibom State University, and payment of gratuities to retirees and to next of kin for those that have died.
The angry youths took over the governor’s page Friday morning while the live broadcast of his interview with Channels TV crew on Sunrise Daily was being shared.
The programme was part of events to mark the 6th anniversary of the governor whose intention had been to showcase his scorecard for the past six years.
But the youths were bitter with the governor who spoke on issues ranging from power, the aviation sector, education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce to industry.
They also prompted the TV crew to ask the governor about the relocation of Ibaka Deep Seaport, the astronomical rise in unemployment which they viewed as directly conflicting with his industrialisation claims.
The governor, who denied the relocation of Ibaka Seaport, however, admitted that the Federal Government had withdrawn its 20 percent equity from the project, an issue the Oro people have repeatedly been talking about.
