A truck driver reportedly lost his life while two others sustained injuries after the trailer he was driving.
It was gathered that the trailer, which was laden with oranges, was coming from Makurdi, Benue State when the accident occurred on Wednesday around 1 am at the Polo Roundabout.
According to PUNCH, an eyewitness identified the deceased as the truck driver, while the two persons who sustained injuries were those with him in the vehicle.
The eyewitness, Christy Gyang, said, “We were inside our house when we heard a big bang around the Polo Roundabout around 1 am. When we looked in that direction to know what was happening, we discovered that it was a trailer that crashed into a building.
“The building also housed an eatery. But thank God, it was not during business time. If not, we don’t know what would have happened. Unfortunately, the truck driver died on the spot and two persons with him in the vehicle sustained injuries.”
The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in the state, Yakubu Peter, who also confirmed the incident, said those injured had been taken to a hospital.
Peter, who described the accident as unfortunate, warned road users to be cautious while driving.
