Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA; the Nigerian Police Force from Okokomaiko Divisional Police Station, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority are trying to remove a Mack truck that caused an accident at Iyana Ishashi inward Okokomaiko.
The accident was said to have been reported via the Lagos State 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency numbers at 1015hrs on Monday, 1 April 2024.
Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, said the agency activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans, with the prompt arrival of LRT from Igando Base at the incident scene by 10.33 am.
He said: “On arrival at the scene it was observed that a MACK articulated truck, registration number unknown, laden with a 40-foot container was involved in a lone accident that subsequently shut down 50 per cent of the road.
“Further investigations at the scene of the auto crash revealed that the lone accident occurred due to reckless driving on the part of the articulated truck driver.”
He added that there were no casualties, or fatalities recorded during the incident.
Status: The LRT has activated Standard Safety and Traffic Control Measures to forestall any secondary incident and ease vehicular movement around the incident scene.
Efforts are ongoing to ensure quick evacuation of the impediment off the road and ease vehicular traffic, while owners of the ill-fated truck are negotiating alternative trucks to transloading the goods from the 40-foot container for ease of recovery.
According to him, the recovery operation was ongoing.
He, however, named those in attendance to include LASEMA Response Team, LASTMA and Officers of the Nigerian Police Force from Okokomaiko Divisional Police Station.
