Tragedy as truck crushes motorcyclist injures one other in Ogun

Tragedystruck at Oju Ore axis along Iganmode Road, Ota, Ogun State on Thursday as a commercial motorcyclist popularly known as okada fell under a moving truck and he was crushed.

Traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps indicated that the motorcyclist conveying two passengers due to reckless riding, ran into a stationary commercial Volkswagen LT bus, and fell on the path of the moving truck.

The incident occurred around 8.20 am at a spot adjacent to the NNPC retail filling station.

The Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said, “According to an eyewitness account, the motorcyclist, due to reckless and dangerous riding, lost control and hit a stationary bus by the roadside, then fell off the motorcycle and rolled under a moving containerized truck which rolled over him.

“He died instantly.” He said one of the passengers was injured while the second one was unhurt.

Akinbiyi gave the number plates of the truck as AYE 553 XB, the commercial bus as FST 896 XH and that of the ill-fated Bajaj motorcycle as AAB 191 VF.

He added that apart from the TRACE, policemen were also on the ground to restore normalcy to the vehicular traffic in the axis.

Meanwhile, Akinbiyi said the family of the deceased had taken possession of the corpse.

While the TRACE sympathized with the family of the deceased, it warned motorcyclists to exercise caution and ride responsibly with speed in view of the attendant consequences of excess speeding.
