Six governors from the South-South geopolitical zone and other important dignitaries from the Niger Delta region are disappointed that the presidency failed to attend a major stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday.
The meeting was convened at the instance of the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari, to discuss the emerging threats to the peace in the region.
An aide to one of the governors said the meeting was arranged days before Tuesday, which made him wonder why the Presidency chose to treat such important matters as that of the security of the country with levity.
Governors from Akwa Ibom State, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel; Bayelsa State governor, Douyi Diri; Cross River State governor, Benedict Ayade; Edo State governor, Godwin Obaserki; Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and the Rivers State governor Nyesome Wike, attended the meeting.
The governors, who spoke with journalists in Port Harcourt, said they demand an apology from the Presidency.
